Diners who frequented a long-standing Hamilton restaurant known for its decadent brunch and classic Italian fare took to social media to share their shock that the restaurant has officially closed its doors for good.
Cafe Limoncello, an Italian eatery that opened on Ottawa Street North in Hamilton in 2004, recently announced it’s closing.
“Dear valued customers and community, it is with heavy hearts and a profound sense of gratitude that we write to announce the permanent closure of Cafe Limoncello, effective immediately.”
In a note posted on the restaurant’s website and social media, the owners say the cafe was more than just a restaurant and functioned as a gathering place that was a “cherished part of their lives.”
“The decision to close was not made lightly, and as we reflect on the countless memories and connections formed within these walls, we are filled with gratitude for the wonderful years we’ve spent together,” the post reads.
The post shocked long-time fans of the resto, many of whom shared memories of the eatery.
“My husband and I had one of our first dates here! It’s a memory we both cherish so deeply. I really felt myself falling in love with him during our dinner,” one poster wrote on Instagram.
“Thank you for bringing us closer together and being such a beautiful part of our love story!”
Others said they enjoyed working at the restaurant over the course of its two-decade run.
“My first job was here and it was nothing but an amazing place to work such a great work family and couldn’t be more thankful for Nancy and her family and the opportunity I was given,” another poster said.
“Nothing but a caring and loving family. Wishing you guys nothing but the best!”
