Royana Black Hubbell, a Broadway and sitcom actress, died in Los Angeles following a cancer battle. She was 47.
Black Hubbell, best known for her Broadway role as Laurie in Neil Simon’s “Brighton Beach Memoirs” and the CBS sitcom “Raising Miranda,” died of acute myeloid leukemia, her family announced in an obituary.
“Royana had an infectious smile and laugh which could light even the the darkest of days,” the obituary read. “She was a beautiful person inside and out. She was truly an angel on earth.”
She is survived by her husband John Paul Hubbell, her mother and her brother.
A GoFundMe campaign to help her husband with the expenses arising from her passing says she passed “very suddenly.”
“Royana’s incredible energy and spirit will be a part of our lives forever, and her friends and family want to remember her and assist her husband, JP, at this most difficult time,” the description reads.
The fundraiser has raised $53,340,more than doubling its goal of $25,000.
A week after her passing, an update was shared on the fundraising page.
“We are equal parts humbled and shocked at the outpouring of generosity into this memorial fund. JP continues with the struggle of getting a handle on the everyday things that must be done in the midst of such soul wracking grief,” the update read. “Words cannot express the gratitude we feel to each and every person who continues to so graciously respond to this campaign, and share it with others to help JP with end of life costs, and future expenses.”
In addition to her most notable roles, Black Hubbell’s obituary also listed more of her work.
“She did many videos for the ‘Reading Rainbow.’ She worked with Paul Sovino in ‘Almost Partners,’ ‘Stood Up,’ an after school special, The Cosby show, and a Woody Allen movie,” the obituary reads.
