In July, the regional grocery store announced they planned to close 32 location across
Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Jersey and New York by Nov. 2. A spokesperson confirmed that as of Oct. 31, all of the locations have now closed their doors.
The company “evaluated its overall store portfolio and made the difficult decision to close underperforming stores to create a healthy base for the future growth of our brand, ” said Gordon Reid, President, Stop & Shop in a press release.
Unsold items from the stores have been donated.
“The impacted stores are working with their existing local partners to ensure that unsold products are donated to those in need,” Stop & Shop spokesperson Stephanie Cunha said in an email. “For items that their local hunger-relief partner may not pick up, i.e. pet food, our stores have worked to identify local animal shelters that may pick up those items.”
