8-year-old girl killed in Kansas after getting hit by school bus

While waiting for her school bus with her brother outside their home, Harmoney was struck by another school bus. Despite prompt medical attention, her life could not be saved.

Harmoney Harper, like any other excited eight-year-old, was eagerly looking forward to the new school year at Oaklawn Elementary in Wichita, Kansas. Her first day was a blast, filled with the usual anticipation of new experiences. Tragically, Harmoney’s promising start came to a sudden and heartbreaking halt.

A Heartbreaking Accident

On the fateful morning of August 16th, Harmoney was waiting with her brother for their school bus outside their residence. In a devastating turn of events, she was struck by another school bus. Despite the swift response of first responders and resuscitation efforts, Harmoney could not be revived.

The accident occurred around 07:20am, but details about the number of students aboard the bus at the time remain unclear. Authorities confirmed that there were no other injuries, but the impact of the incident on Harmoney’s family and community is immeasurable.

A Father’s Heartbreaking Account

Jasper Harper, Harmoney’s father, shared the heartbreaking sequence of events leading to the loss of his daughter. He recounted how his wife heard their son’s screams for his sister, prompting her to rush outside. Jasper was awakened to the urgent plea, “I need you now.” By the time he reached the front door, he heard the devastating words, “Call 911, my daughter’s dead.” Harmoney had been playing outside her home, a place where she felt safe.
