Realizing something was wrong, she quickly ran to the closest safe place, the Cedar Falls Fire Station, only a short distance away. Firefighters immediately checked the girls’ breathing, gave oxygen support, and called paramedics to assess them.

Doctors later determined that both children had suffered an allergic reaction, likely caused by pollen or contact with a plant while playing outside. Because their mother acted quickly and firefighters responded right away, the girls recovered fully within a few hours.

The fire department praised Emma for remaining calm and making a fast decision in a stressful moment. The incident also reminded the community how quickly unexpected medical situations can happen, especially with small children outdoors, and how important quick action can be.
